Cognitive Retraining and Memory Retainment Strategies

Cognitive Retraining and Memory Retainment Strategies

Cognitive rehabilitation is used by Occupational Therapists to treat patients experiencing reduced cognitive function as a result of injury or disease. MK Health’s clinicians utilise various treatment techniques to restore cognitive function and facilitate safe and independent engagement in activities.

Cognitive rehabilitation comprises two approaches including restorative therapy and compensatory therapy.

Restorative therapy is used to facilitate the development and restoration of cognitive function which was lost as a result of injury or disease. Compensatory therapy involves the provision of aids, tools and daily routines to better equip people to overcome their cognitive impairments when performing daily activities.

It is vital that clinicians complete accurate and thorough assessment of an individual’s cognitive function prior to commencing interventions to ensure that rehabilitation goals are individually tailored to the patient. At MK Health, our occupational therapists have highly developed skills in the area of cognitive assessment and intervention and have proven their ability in facilitating outcomes for clients with cognitive deficits.
