Mobility and falls risk assessments

Mobility and falls risk assessments

Mobility is a crucial feature in the maintenance of independent community living. An individual’s mobility can be affected by many factors including disease, age, injury and general deconditioning.

When mobility is impacted, a major consequence is the occurrence of a fall. Falls are one of the largest causes of injury and hospital admission amongst older people.

Allied health professionals have a central role in preventing falls and harm from falls in community dwelling older people. The allied health clinicians at MK Health have extensive experience in the provision of mobility assessments and falls prevention strategies. Our clinicians are able to complete comprehensive home safety assessments and make recommendations to minimise the risk of falls within the home.

The occupational therapists at MK Health have extensive training in the provision of home modifications and complex equipment provision and are well versed to tackle the challenges of complex home environments.

Following completion of the mobility and falls risk assessments, MK Health’s clinicians can provide additional interventions including the provision of a home or clinic based strengthening and falls prevention exercise program. We also have a falls and balance clinic located at our practice at 23 A King William Road, Unley.
